8 Areas in Life You Can Set Goals For

8 Life Goals You Can Set For

The art of goal setting can be tricky and many people struggle to either remember their goals or keep track of their progress.

Most people will set a few goals at the start of a new year and they will probably forget about them by the end of the first month. It is no secret that the majority of the most successful people are known for their goal setting and sticking to them.

In this goal-setting guide, we have listed the eight areas that you should set goals within. We recommend that you re-visit these goals either monthly or quarterly to ensure that you are still on track or to adjust any goals that may no longer be relevant. Personally, I revisit them monthly.

There are different categories of goals that we can address.

The health goals are separated into 3 sub-categories. The body, the mind and your spirituality.

And then, we have the relationship goals. Here, you have the love relationship, family and your social life.

Finally, we have the financial category which has financial and our career or business.

Life Mastery Circle

During the goals setting process, it is important to make sure that all goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-based. This is known as the SMART goal framework, which is the most widely recognized method for goal setting.

Now let’s take a look at the different goals we can set for.

Goals For The Body

Our first goal-setting area we have included is goals relating to your body. If you consider yourself to be a physically fit individual, you should reflect on whether you are healthy or vice versa.

Perhaps you need to exercise more, or drink more water?

While goals relating to your body are easy to make and monitor, you have to incorporate them into your daily life, which is where most people struggle. Ensuring that your body, fitness or health goals are attainable will help you keep to your goals.

Starting off small and building the goals up will work best for most people.

Goals For The Mind

Similar to the first set of goals, you should also create goals relating to your mind as well as your body.

Are you keeping your mind active by learning new things?
Have you been practicing enough self love or self care?
Are you feeling more negative about yourself lately?

While physical health is important, you should not forget about your mental health as well. In these modern times, with the extensive amount of distractions and longer working hours that everyone has, it can sometimes be difficult to find time to work on your mind.

By setting goals and leaving time periods for your mental health and goals, you will see a drastic improvement in your positivity levels and attitude towards life.

Goals Relating To Your Spirituality

For those of you with either spiritual or religious beliefs, it is important to set personal goals relating to them.

Have you attended a religious or spiritual ceremony or event recently?
When was the last time you activity practiced your beliefs?

Making time for the things we are passionate about can be increasingly difficult with so many distractions available, so it is even more important to set goals to remind ourselves to do more of what we love.

If you are going through a period of difficulty or feeling lost, perhaps you have not practiced your spiritual or religious beliefs often enough.

Be sure to make time for your beliefs and passions starting today.

Goals For Your Love Relationship

There are only two people within a relationship and therefore making sure that your relationship is consistently progressing and remaining healthy is in the hands of two individuals.

How is your relationship going with your partner?
Have you checked in with your other half on their thoughts and feelings?
When was your last date night?

It’s easy to get lost in the daily grind of life and forget to maintain a healthy relationship with your loved one. Attention and communication are two of the fundamental foundations in any relationship, and if you are not putting the effort in, your relationship will struggle.

Make sure to assess your current relationship and set goals to ensure that it continues to grow in a healthy way.

Goals For Your Family Relationships

As well as setting goals for your romantic relationship, you should also consider the relationships that you have with various family members.

Do you see your parents enough and spend true quality time with them?
Or when was the last time you took your children out on a family trip?

It is easy to take the relationships with your family members for granted and most times you will not even realize you it.

Alternatively, if you are in regular contact with your family, then it is always important to ask the crucial questions that may sometimes slip your mind.

Are they feeling okay?
How is everyone’s mental health?

The subject of mental health can be taboo within a family setting, as it may not be a subject that is often discussed. It is incredibly important, however, to ask how your family members are doing as no-one will understand you (and vice versa) like a family member does.

You only get one family in life. Make sure you set your family relationship goals today.

Goals For Your Social Life

The final set of relationship related goals are associated with your group of friends.

When was the last time you saw your friends?
Do you need to see them more often

Out of all the relationships you will have throughout your life, those that you have with your friends will be the hardest to maintain throughout your life. If you do not put the necessary amount of time and effort in to your friendships, then you will slowly lose them.

To keep your friendships healthy, it is essential to set goals to ensure you are putting enough effort into those relationships.

On the other hand, if you are re-evaluating your friendships and you find that they no longer serve you any positivity in your life, then perhaps it is time to make a change.

Whether you need to tackle the problems in your current friendships or make new ones, setting goals will have a positive impact on your life in the future.

Goals For Your Career/Business

Setting goals relating to either your career or your business are some of the most popular goals that people remember to set, usually at the beginning of a new year. But if you are going through difficulties at work, then you do not have to wait until the start of a new year to make a change.

Life can evolve quickly which is why we recommend revisiting and resetting your goals every month. This is to ensure that your current goals reflect how you feel in your life during that moment.

Are you still progressing at work the way you were last time you set a goal?
What is your ultimate career goal?
Or do you need to either take a break or make a change?

If you’re running your own business, when was the last time you had a look at your business model canvas?

Comparing your recent and long-term progress against your ultimate career goal will give you a sign as to your trajectory towards your end career goal. If you dislike this result, then you know it is time to make a change.

You will only get these results by setting relevant and frequent goals.

Financial Goals

Often relating to your career goals, and another popular goal category, are financial goals.

Are you financially healthy?
Do you need to increase your savings?
Have you got any debts you need to clear?

Financial struggles are one of the biggest stresses that adults face throughout their live making it incredibly important to set these goals. This is to make sure you are on track financially. Most people measure their financial performance quarterly, which is also what we suggest, as it allows you to treat your personal finances similar to a business which will hopefully help you stay on track.

Summary

While this guide is here to help you, ultimately, it is up to you and your actions. Learn to accept responsibility and account for your own actions.

Setting small achievable goals each month will help you inch your way closer to your ultimate goal.
